Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - Laois School Extension.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

80 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for a new classroom and an all-purpose room at Derrylamogue, Rosenallis, County Laois; whether her attention has been drawn to the fact that (a) the existing two classroom school was built in 1964 for 48 students and there are now 79 students on the roll and (b) the senior room has 33 pupils and is now severely overcrowded in that there are no washing or toilet facilities in the junior prefabricated room; if she will take steps to improve conditions; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the situation in relation to Derrylamogue national school, County Laois. The school's application for improved facilities is being considered in consultation with my Department's professional staff and having regard to the large number of projects on hands. A decision in this matter will be conveyed to the school authorities at the earliest possible date.
