Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Kildare School.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

239 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education if she will outline (1) whether an undertaking was given by the Minister of State at her Department on 15 December, 1988 to the board of management of the Presentation Convent post-primary school in Kildare to proceed to stage 4 development and (2) that the undertaking has as yet not been confirmed by her or her Department; if her attention has been drawn to the appalling condition of the 20-year-old prefabs and other dilapidated insanitary buildings now being used as classrooms; if she will now order that the proposed new school be allowed to proceed to stage 4; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position regarding the architectural planning of the building project proposed for the Presentation Convent secondary school in Kildare is that the developed sketch scheme prepared by the school's design team requires amendment before advancement to stage 4, working drawings, can be considered.

In addition a review of the accommodation requirement of the Kildare centre, in general, is necessary before the planning of this project proceeds further.

I am aware of the current situation regarding the school's accommodation and I will ensure that the review of requirements is completed as soon as possible.
