Vol. 406 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Employment Schemes.

Alan Shatter

Question:

42 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Labour the numbers authorised to participate in the social employment schemes starting in September 1991; whether any new persons will be employed under the scheme in the period 30 April to September 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An Exchequer allocation of £57.785 million has been made available for the operation of the social employment scheme in 1991 which, when augmented by EC assistance of approximately £9 million, brings the total available to £67 million approximately. Over 10,000 persons will start on the social employment scheme over the course of this year. The level of intake in specific months and specific areas is a day to day matter for FÁS.
