Written Answers. - Local Elections.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

48 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment whether the Government propose to review the representation in the local electoral areas for the county council and county borough council elections, scheduled for June this year, in the light of the changes in population indicated in the 1986 census of population; and, if so, when.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

49 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment whether he proposes to review the representation in the local electoral areas for the county council borough council elections scheduled for June this year in the light of the changes in population indicated in the 1986 census of population; if so, when; and if the terms of such a review would retain the aim of the last one, namely, to bring about a more consistent relationship between population and representation within country and county boundaries.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 48 and 49 together.

I have no proposals to change the representation in county or county borough electoral areas before the local elections to be held in June.
