Vol. 407 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

Before calling Deputy Cullimore there is a matter on which I must advise the house referring to the Adjourment debate. Permission has been given by the Ceann Comhairle in respect of three questions which were sought to be raised under Standing Order 20 (3) (a), but I must advise the House of the requests in respect of which notice was given and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Michael Moynihan — the deferral of the Dingle marine public inquiry; (2) Deputy Ivor Callely — the provision of neuro surgery services in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9; (3) Deputy Tomás Mac Giolla — the need for free school transport for school children of the Cherry Orchard estate, Ballyfermot, Dublin to attend schools over two miles away in the city; (4) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — the repeated concerns expressed by District Justice Wine of the Dún Laoghaire Court, about the lack of a remedial detention centre for young offenders, in view of the rising incidents of juvenile crime in the Dún Laoghaire area; (5) Deputy Eric Byrne — the problems encountered by members of the public in obtaining a garda to sign application forms for Irish passports; (6) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the serious condition of Parliament Bridge in Cork city and the lack of finance to carry out urgent repairs on same; (7) Deputy Alan Shatter — the urgent need for extra residential places for adult mentally handicapped in south Dublin and the necessity to bring into operation the current vacant residential units in Cheeverstown House; (8) Deputy Roger Garland — the continued failure of the Minister for the Marine to respond to the report by An Bord Fáilte published in January dealing with the dangers to our coastal waters posed by fin fish farming; (9) Deputy Mattie Brennan — in view of the inconvenience and unease caused to many people by forestry development too near their houses, if the Minister will consider making all such developments by Coillte Teoranta subject to the Planning Act and (10) Deputy Bernard Allen — if the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications will take steps to prevent the Bank of Ireland from posting Access credit card statements from an address in Great Britain, thereby depriving the Irish postal services of much needed revenue.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected the matters raised by the following Deputies: Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan, Deputy Alan Shatter and Deputy Tomás Mac Giolla.
