Question:

35 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details by name and location of the monuments or archaeological sites where first time or new restoration works will commence in the current year.

The following is a list of national monuments and sites where new restoration works will commence in 1991: Ardmullivan Castle, County Galway, resurfacing of access route; Quinn Abbey, County Clare, conservation works; Scattery Island, County Clare, provision of access to the island; Corlea Bog, County Longford, provision of interpretative facilities; Ballintubber Abbey, County Mayo; restoration of Chapter House; Ceide Fields, Ballycastle, County Mayo, provision of interpretative facilities; Trinity Island Abbey, County Roscommon, conservation works and excavations; Donegal Castle, County Donegal, reroofing; Fore Abbey, County Westmeath, restoration of Gate House; Lislaughtin Abbey, County Kerry, conservation works to medieval gateway; Glendalough, County Wicklow, works to entrance of visitors centre.

These works are in addition to works currently in hand and to ongoing maintenance at various sites throughout the country.
