Written Answers. - Crime Statistics.

Jim Higgins

Question:

167 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice the number of people convicted of crimes by the courts in the years between 1986 and 1991; and the number of those so convicted who had (a) primary education only, (b) primary education and second level education up to 15 years of age, (c) primary education and second level education to leaving certificate level and (d) third level education.

The available statistics in relation to persons convicted of crime are set out in the Garda Commissioner's Annual Reports on Crime and in the Annual Reports for Prisons and Places of Detention, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library; neither of these reports contains information concerning the educational attainment of persons convicted.
