Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Solicitors' Travel Expenses.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

168 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice the amount of monies paid to solicitors and executives of the Legal Aid Board for travel expenses to and from district offices and to and from court appearance for each of the years 1985 to 1990.

The amount of money spent on travel expenses for the years 1985 to 1988 by the Legal Aid Board is given in the annual accounts of the Legal Aid Board for the years 1983-88 which were laid before the House of the Oireachtas on 9 August 1990.

For the convenience of the Deputy I will repeat them here:

Year

Amount

£

1985

71,657

1986

69,343

1987

71,259

1988

73,601

For the year 1989 the amount was £66,393 and the provisional figure for 1990 is £72,202.
The figures include travel expenses paid to board members and to solicitors and administrative staff employed by the board and it would not be possible to break them down further without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time.
