Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kildare Road Repairs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

181 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will confirm that nothing in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress will impede his response to the submission received from Kildare County Council through the county engineer and the county manager setting out the financial requirements in respect of repairs to main and county roads for the current and future years; if he will outline (a) the precise amount of moneys sought by the local authority in respect of this matter and the years to which such a request refers (b) the precise amount of moneys available to Kildare County Council in the current year for such improvement works and (c) the difference between (a) and (b); and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the question relates to a submission from the Kildare County Manager entitled "Damage caused to roads in County Kildare". This submission does not specify financial requirements in respect of repairs to main and county roads for the current and future years. The total 1991 State road grant allocation to Kildare County Council amounts to £19.717 million of which £1.868 million is in respect of discretionary grants.
