Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

55 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when he expects the announcement regarding the extension of the severely handicapped areas to be made; and if he expects payments to commence this year.

The proposal by the EC Commission in relation to our submission for extension of the disadvantaged areas is expected to be tabled by mid-May. I would hope to be able to announce details of the proposed new and reclassified areas as soon as possible after that.

This will allow time for 1991 headage applications to be issued to farmers in the areas concerned and for payments to commence before the end of the year.
