Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Badger Baiting.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

65 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has satisfied himself that legislation is adequate to deal with the problem of badger baiting here; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The baiting of any animal is an offence under the Protection of Animals Act, 1911. Additional protection is afforded to the badger by the Wildlife Act, 1976, under which it is designated a protected species, the responsibility for which rests with the Minister for Finance.
