Question:

82 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the changes which have been made in the age allowance which is currently at £200, in the past 20 years.

Age allowance is available to all persons aged 65 years or more. It was introduced in the 1974 Finance Act and the rates applicable for all past years are as shown below. The married rate applies to married couples where both spouses are living together and where at least one of the spouses is of the required age.
