Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Lough Allen (Leitrim) Hydrographic Survey.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

88 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the final results of a hydrographic survey carried out for the Office of Public Works on the Lough Allen Canal, County Leitrim; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The hydrographic survey of Lough Allen carried out for the Office of Public Works shows that extensive dredging is required in the lake before it can be reopened for navigation. The Office of Public Works is at present examining how best this dredging may be done, having regard particularly to the ecological effects. Possible sources of funding for this work and for the work necessary in the Lough Allen canal are also being investigated.
