Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water Conservation Equipment for Public Buildings.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

87 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Finance whether specifications for public buildings drawn up by the Office of Public Works include the installation of water conservation equipment; and if not, if he has any plans to incorporate such provisions.

Specifications for public buildings drawn up by the Office of Public Works are prepared to the highest reasonable standards. The architects in the Office of Public Works are fully conscious of the problems arising from the use of excessive quantities of water and in designing the water services in buildings, equipment is specified to achieve the most economical possible use of water consistent with good hygiene and satisfactory waste disposal.

The Office of Public Works are fully committed to all aspects of good conservation practice. With regard to conservation of water in building services, while I have no plans at present to incorporate the installation of any additional water conservation equipment in building specifications, the Deputy can be assured that the Office of Public Works specifications will continue to incorporate the best equipment of proven efficacy which is available at reasonable cost.
