Question:

107 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amount of premia paid to insurance companies for motor insurance for each of the years from 1983 to 1990; and the total income earned by these motor insurance companies through investment of this premium money in each of these years.

The information sought by the Deputy in regard to premia paid to insurance companies for motor insurance is as follows:

Information in regard to 1990 is not yet available.
Information sought by the Deputy on income accruing to insurers from investment of motor premia is not available due to the fact that the investment information provided by insurers with their head offices in Ireland relates to their total business and branches of foreign insurers operating in Ireland are not required to provide details of investment income.
