Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance Claims.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

108 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amounts paid out by insurance companies in motor insurance claims in each year from 1983 to 1990.

The information sought by the Deputy in regard to amounts paid out by insurance companies in motor insurance claims is as follows:

Year

Gross Claims Paid

£m

1983

214

1984

240

1985

278

(includes 1984-85 ICI claims)

1986

261

1987

269

1988

300

1989

346

Information in regard to 1990 is not yet available.
The Deputy no doubt will appreciate that the figure of claims paid in any particular year represents only a percentage of the cost of claims incurred during that year.
