Vol. 407 No. 8

Written Answers. - Policy on Asylum.

Nora Owen

Question:

38 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the procedures as outlined to airport/seaport immigration officials concerning asylum seekers; and whether these procedures include a requirement to contract those organisations working for refugees in this country, namely, the Irish Refugee Council or the Lawyer's Advisory Group.

The arrangements and procedures that apply in this matter are as outlined by me in my reply to Questions Nos. 54, 55, 57, 62, 63, 64 and 65 of 14 June 1990 — columns 2533-2556 of the Official Report. These arrangements were put in place following discussion and agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

I have no proposals to alter the arrangements.
