Vol. 407 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Kerry Garda Strength.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

40 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice if he will increase the number of gardaí in Tralee, Castleisland and Killarney, County Kerry, in view of the recent increase in crime in those areas.

The allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities, who inform me that measures are being taken to deal with the particular crime situation in Tralee, Killarney and Castleisland areas. These include the operation of extra patrols, establishment of neighbourhood watch schemes and close liaison with local traders with a view to making their premises more secure. The effectiveness of these measures is being closely monitored.
