Vol. 408 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Hospital.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

63 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health his views on whether it would now be appropriate for him to invite the Board of the Adelaide Hospital to play a leading role in the management of the proposed Regional Teaching Hospital at Tallaght, Dublin 24.

I have already stated on a number of occasions in the past year my appreciation and the Government's appreciation of the distinctive and valuable contribution made by the Adelaide Hospital to Irish medicine and also stated my commitment to ensure that whatever arrangements are put in place for management of the new hospital at Tallaght will protect the traditions of the Adelaide.

As the Deputy will know, a working party, representative of the Adelaide Hospital, Meath Hospital and the National Children's Hospital, Harcourt Street — the three hospitals which will move to Tallaght — has been established under the chairmanship of Mr. David Kingston, chief executive of Irish Life, plc, with a view to reaching agreement on an appropriate management structure for the new hospital.

The group has not yet submitted its report to me on the outcome of its deliberations.
