Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Regional Technical Colleges Funding.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

31 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if there is adequate funding available for regional technical colleges to ensure that (1) they can maintain their first year student intake at 1990 levels and (2) they have adequate access to teaching staff and class materials for increasing second year and third year diploma classes arising from (a) the dramatic fall in the drop-out ratio and (b) the higher success ratio in examinations.

Allocations for the current year are being finalised at present. My Department are aware of the concerns of a number of colleges about their overall financial position, given student numbers and these will be given full consideration in framing the allocations.
