Vol. 408 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Accommodation.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

34 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the plans he has for the construction of further accommodation for married members of the Permanent Defence Forces in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

The provision of housing is primarily a matter for local authorities and married members of the Permanent Defence Forces have an equal claim on such housing with other members of the community in the same income category.

My Department keep in touch with local authorities in regard to housing of married personnel and are aware that local authorities generally are helpful in so far as married personnel of the Permanent Defence Forces are concerned.
There is now a total of 376 married quarters held, over 200 quarters having been sold to occupants during the past few years.
There are no current proposals for the building of houses by my Department.
