Vol. 408 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cork Corporation Housing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

130 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he will visit the Cork north-central constituency in the near future and in particular, the houses and flat complexes which are lying idle and which are in urgent need of refurbishment; if he will outline the plans which have been submitted to his Department for approval and funding by Cork Corporation in this constituency; and if he will further outline when the work will be given the go ahead in each case.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 191 of 20 March 1991 which sets out the applications received from Cork Corporation under the remedial works scheme. The estates listed in that reply have been designated for funding under the scheme and capital totalling £14.6 million, including £3 million for this year, has been allocated to the corporation. The planning and carrying out of remedial works in their estates is a matter for the local authority as is the apportionment of the capital allocation between the estates.

An application for funding in respect of Baker's Road flats received last month is under examination in the Department and a decision will be notified to the corporation as soon as possible.
