Written Answers. - Mountmellick (Laois) School Project.

Question:

174 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the progress to date regarding the reconstruction building work and school refurbishment that she has undertaken at Mountmellick Community School, Mountmellick, County Laois since the date of the inception of the community school; and whether her attention has been drawn to the fact that the roof is in particularly bad condition and the heating system needs to be improved.

Improvement works undertaken to date at Mountmellick Community School include provision of a metalwork facility and some roof repairs.

The other matters referred to by the Deputy are being considered at present in the context of proposals for the general upgrading and refurbishment of the building.

175 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the new equipment which is being provided for in the Mountmellick Community School, County Laois; and the type of equipment she envisages providing in the school in the immediate future.

Since 1990 a sum in excess of £90,000 was spent on the acquisition of new equipment to complement the existing resources at Mountmellick Community School. A further equipment provision is at present being evaluated by the planning and building unit of my Department.

176 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request from the parents' council of Mountmellick Community School, County Laois to meet a delegation of parents to discuss the overall position of the school; and when she will be in a position to meet the delegation.

My office have received a request from the parents' council of Mountmellick Community School to meet a delegation.

As the Deputy will be aware I receive many requests for meetings and I will be in touch with the parents' council as soon as I can regarding their request.
