Vol. 408 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fraud Squad Investigation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

121 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will direct the fraud squad to investigate the loss of £6 million of the taxpayers' money in the transaction involving companies (details supplied) and the ICC who are the body given responsibility by the Minister for Industry and Commerce for the running of the export credit insurance scheme.

It is not a matter for the Minister for Justice to direct the fraud squad to carry out particular investigations. Such investigations are, of course, operational matters.

The Deputy may take it, however, that any allegations of criminal activity in this jurisdiction which are referred to the gardaí in this, or any other case, will be investigated by them. If information relating to such criminal activity is available in this case, therefore, it should be brought to the attention of the gardaí.
