Vol. 408 No. 9

Written Answers. - Prison Security Arrangements.

Nora Owen

Question:

72 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline his plans for the takeover by his Department from the Department of Education of the security element of Trinity House, Lusk, County Dublin as indicated in a media report (details supplied); and whether such responsibility will include the decision as to who will get a place in Trinity House.

The information contained in the media report referred to in the question was not wholly accurate. It is the case that my Department have undertaken to advise the Department of Education on security arrangements at Trinity House and, to this end, it was arranged that a senior prison governor would assess the security requirements of that institution. However, responsibility for the management and operation of Trinity House will remain with the Department of Education and there are no proposals for any change in this regard.
