31 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if her Department have considered the introduction of panels of supply teachers to ensure cover for teachers who are absent, for illness and other reasons, from their posts in national schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
At present, arrangements exist for the employment of substitute teachers to cover for teachers absent owing to illness or other specified reasons.
The question as to whether these arrangements might be more effectively operated on the basis of a panel of supply teachers has been raised. This matter is currently being examined by my Department.
