Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) School.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

144 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education if she received representations dated 27 March 1991 from St. Thomas's senior school, Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 24 (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the issues raised in these representations and generally on the matter.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

145 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education whether her attention has been drawn to the accommodation crisis now facing St. Thomas's senior national school, Jobstown, Tallaght, where (a) classes are at present being taught in the staff room and the secretary's office, (b) two rooms in the adjoining junior school are occupied by classes from the senior school and (c) for the coming school year there is no accommodation available for 110 pupils; if she will outline her plans to deal with this situation before next September; if she will further outline a long term strategy to meet the needs of this school, where enrolment will continue to rise for several years; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 144 and 145 together.

I am aware of the problems facing this school regarding accommodation arrangements for the forthcoming school year. The position is that my Department are currently examining possible solutions to these problems in conjunction with its professional advisers. The school authorities were appraised of this fact.

My Department expect to conclude their examination shortly and a decision in the matter will issue to the school authorities.
