Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Provision of CAT Scanner.

Michael Bell

Question:

170 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to (a) the special need for the provision of a CAT scanner machine at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, County Louth, (b) the fact that these investigations have to be done in Dublin at present, which causes considerable delay, uncertainty and a possible loss of life, (c) the fact that this is the only hospital of its size in Ireland which has not got this machine and (d) the fact that approximately 50 per cent of the cost has been raised by voluntary donations; if he will make a special grant available for the remaining cost from his Department or from national lottery funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently been informed by the chairman of the board of the hospital that the hospital intends to acquire a CAT scanner and that the total cost of this equipment will be met from voluntary donation.
