Vol. 410 No. 4

Written Answers. - New Milk Cessation Scheme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

40 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a proposal to the EC Commission to initiate a new milk cessation scheme.

The recently concluded EC price negotiations, provided for the introduction of a Community-funded milk quota buy-up scheme. This will be used to provide for reallocations to offset quota reductions in the current year and to help meet Mulder requirements.

The details of the scheme will be advertised by my Department as soon as the decisions have been taken at Community level on implementing regulations.

The question of any further buy-up scheme would be a matter for consideration in the context of the negotiations on the reform of the CAP which must inevitably deal with future milk policy, including the quota regime.
