Vol. 410 No. 4

Written Answers. - Treatment Delay.

Austin Currie

Question:

68 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health the reason a child (details supplied) in Clondalkin, Dublin 22 is waiting two and a half years to have grommets fitted because of a hearing problem, having regard to the fact that she cannot commence speech therapy until this operation is undertaken; when she can expect to be called to have this vital procedure carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The child concerned is on a routine waiting list for admission to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin and I understand she will be admitted in the very near future.

The Deputy will appreciate that admission to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and priority is given to medically urgent cases.

Should the parent's of the child be concerned about the child's condition they should contact their family doctor who will be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of the case to the consultant directly.
