Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consumer Association of Ireland Funding.

Phil Hogan

Question:

271 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the amount of grant aid given to the Consumers' Association of Ireland annually; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1990 I provided £1,000 to the Consumers' Association of Ireland from my Department's Vote. This was the only such allocation in over 20 years.

In addition, my colleague, the Minister for Health provided national lottery funding of £3,000 in each of the years 1988, 1989 and 1990. He is currently examining an application for funding for 1991 and a decision is expected shortly.

The provision of State moneys to the association has in recent years assisted in the procurement of substantial financial assistance from the EC Commission.
