Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Price Mark-Up of Domestic Fuels.

Enda Kenny

Question:

290 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the average price mark-up at retail level on (a) domestic coal per tonne, (b) peat briquettes per tonne and (c) petrol per gallon; if he will further outline (1) the purchase price by Dublin Gas, of National Gas per therm and (2) its retail price to the consumer; his views on whether this range is excessive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no function in regard to the retail price of domestic coal, peat briquettes or petrol.

With regard to natural gas, I would point out that Bord Gáis Dublin is a trading division of Bord Gáis Éireann (BGE). The price at which the board purchase gas from Marathon Petroleum, Ireland, Limited. is a contractual matter between the two companies concerned and it is not open to me to disclose details of such contract. I would refer the Deputy to page 34 of BGE's Annual Report for 1990 for details of the retail price of gas.
