Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Imports.

Michael Noonan

Question:

172 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline in respect of (a) 1989 and (b) 1990 the actual or estimated number of motor vehicles imported into the State without payment of excise duty on transfer of residence by the importers.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that centralised records maintained by them for the years in question give details only of motor vehicles of a value of £5,000 or more. The total number of such motor vehicles imported without payment of excise duty on transfer of residence in 1989 was 1,601 while the figure in 1990 was 1,770.
