Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Programme for Economic and Social Progress Review

Dick Spring

Question:

180 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance if he will give an assurance that any alteration in (a) the terms and conditions of employment and (b) the number of employees in the public service will be negotiated through the central review committee on the Programme for Economic and Social Progress with the social partners; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Various arrangements exist for consultation or negotiation on matters such as are referred to at (a) and (b) of the Deputy's question. Which of these arrangements would be used in any particular situation would depend on the circumstances of that situation.

The Deputy will be aware that discussions on various issues relating to the Programme for Economic and Social Progress are commencing under the aegis of the central review committee.
