Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - Requests for Lottery Aid.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

72 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the number of requests, if any, received in her Department from various agencies throughout County Kildare for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery in 1991; if she has responded or intends to respond positively to any or all of such requests in the current year or in 1992; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Grants are paid by my Department from the proceeds of the national lottery in respect of youth and sports activities to a large number of agencies which provide services both locally and nationally. Consequently, it would not be practical to quantify the total amount sought or approved in respect of any specific geographic area.

In addition to grants paid to national organisations, grants amounting to £13,000 have been paid in 1991 to the County Kildare Vocational Education Committee for the promotion of youth and sports developments within the committee's scheme and a further £3,500 in respect of costs associated with the 1991 Be Active Be Alive campaign.
