Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Meath Housing Lists.

Seán Ryan

Question:

30 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the large waiting list for housing that exists in Meath County Council in the light of his proposed housing plan which will have minimal effect on the housing problem in Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that the increased capital allocation in 1991 for the housing construction programme in County Meath, an increase of 27 per cent over 1990, the availability of houses through the occurrence of vacancies in the council's existing stock, the increased capital for the provision of voluntary housing and the various initiatives in A Plan for Social Housing, if developed to their full potential by Meath County Council, represent a reasonable response to existing housing needs in the county.
