Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Callan (Kilkenny) Road Proposal.

Phil Hogan

Question:

72 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment when finances will be made available for the provision of a by-pass at Callan, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Liam Aylward

Question:

106 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment when a public inquiry will be held by his Department regarding the provision of a new by-pass at Callan in County Kilkenny; and when it is intended that this work will commence.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 106 together.

A public local inquiry will open on 12 November 1991 into objections made against confirmation of the Kilkenny County Council Compulsory Purchase Order No. 1 of 1991, which relates to the proposed Callan by-pass, and into the propriety of confirming the order in so far as it relates to the extinguishment of public rights-of-way. Because of my function in relation to this order, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further about the scheme at this stage.
