Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Phil Hogan

Question:

84 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the problem in relation to public liability and the question of national monuments and the responsibility of land owners; when legislation will be enacted to remove any question of ambiguity in relation to these matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Public liability in relation to national monuments in State ownership is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works. The liability of private land-owners to persons who enter their property is a general one and is not related specifically to national monuments. It would not be appropriate to deal with this issue by national monuments legislation.
