Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rural Development Scheme.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

85 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the projects which have been approved under the integrated rural development scheme in the south Galway and north Clare parishes.

I take it that the area to which the Deputy refers is one of the 12 areas selected under the pilot programme for integrated rural development which I launched in 1988.

According to their report, the core group became involved in 44 projects during the pilot period, of which 20 were initiated during that time. The projects which received financial assistance from various State agencies, fell into the following categories:

Primary agriculture

2

Alternative agriculture

6

Tourism

11

Heritage

3

Social/Culture

14

Small and medium enterprises

Infrastructure

4

Aquaculture/mariculture
