Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Medical Fees Reimbursement.

Bernard Allen

Question:

17 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on recent reports (details supplied) that Irish doctors have complained of major delays in obtaining re-imbursement of medical fees from the health boards.

In May this year a circular letter in respect of refunds for medical defence fees for non-consultant hospital doctors issued to each health board. Pending clarification of certain issues involved, some delays did occur in issuing refunds. However, I understand that health boards now have a mechanism in place to ensure that refunds are issued within a reasonable period after presentation of the renewal certificate.

I am not aware of any serious delays in the reimbursement of medical defence fees from health boards to hospital consultants.
