Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointment.

Michael Creed

Question:

213 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm that an application has been received in her Department for the appointment of a remedial teacher to the national schools in Innishannon parish, such as (a) Knockavilla, (b) Gurrane, (c) Castlelack and (d) Innishannon; and if she will outline the current position regarding the application.

My Department has received an application for the appointment of a remedial teacher to the schools in question.

As the Deputy will be aware 80 additional remedial posts were serving over 240 schools allocated this year under arrangements under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

These appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the Department's inspectorate.

The needs of these and other schools will be kept under review.
