Question:

56 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the total strength of the Permanent Defence Forces (a) by command, (b) by corps and (c) unit over the past five years; and the number by rank who have been graded "C" and therefore unable to perform full and active duties.

The total strength of the Permanent Defence Forces on 31 December in each of the past five years is as follows:

Details of the strength in each command and corps are being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy.
The number of personnel graded medical category "C" on 30 June 1991, was 1,323. The position in relation to the performance of duties by these personnel is as follows: Full duties, 606; Unarmed regimental duties, 260; No regimental duties, 457.
