Vol. 411 No. 8

Written Answers. - Free Legal Aid Scheme.

Michael Bell

Question:

90 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline (1) the amount paid to each solicitor, barrister and senior counsel under the free legal aid scheme for each of the last five years and (2) the names of the personnel and the companies involved.

The information requested by the Deputy, in so far as it is readily available, is contained in replies to Dáil questions, as set out in the Official Report of this House as follows: Parliamentary Question No. 45 of 24 April 1991 — volume 407, columns 985 to 1010; Parliamentary Question No. 158 of 27 November 1990 — volume 403, columns 105 to 119; Parliamentary Question No. 159 of 5 December 1989 — volume 394, columns 122 to 124; Parliamentary Question No. 66 of 25 January 1989 — volume 386, columns 77 to 79; Parliamentary Question Nos. 53 and 56 of 23 February 1988 — volume 378, columns 543 to 582.

In the reply of 25 January 1989 the House was informed that information relating to the years 1987 and 1988 was not readily available and could not be complied without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and that remains the position.
