Vol. 411 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sex Stereotyping in Examination Papers.

Monica Barnes

Question:

102 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for Education the number of complaints received by her Department alleging sex stereotyping and/or sexism contained in questions on leaving certificate papers each year since 1985.

I am very much aware of the need to be conscious of sex stereotyping and sexism in the context of the certificate examination papers and this matter was brought to the notice of the officers responsible for setting the papers some years ago.

I will communicate with the Deputy shortly regarding any complaints which have been received in my Department.
