Question:

108 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the number and location of posts and barracks occupied by the Defence Forces, excluding those occupied by FCA and Slua Muirí units; the posts which have been demanned since 1 January 1989; the posts which have been occupied by the Defence Forces since 1 January 1989; and if he will make a statement on his policy as regards the future vacating of military posts.

The following table shows the number and location of posts and barracks occupied by the Permanent Defence Force:

The following posts have been vacated by the Defence Forces since 1 January 1989: (a) Fort Camden, County Cork, (b) Fort Dunree, County Donegal, and (c) Cootehill, County Cavan.
In addition to the above posts the former barracks at Cavan was vacated on the transfer of the Defence Forces to the newly built barracks in Cavan (O'Neill Barracks). No new posts, other than O'Neill Barracks, Cavan, have ben occupied by the Defence Forces since 1 January 1989.
