Question:

109 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the number of (1) saloon cars, (2) trucks and (3) transport vans in use in the Defence Forces as at 31 August 1991 which are (a) over four years of age, (b) over six years of age, (c) eight years plus, (d) under one year of age which are in operational service; and the number of each type purchased in each year from 1987 to 1990, inclusive, and to 31 August 1991; the number of saloons, trucks and transport vans which were in the ownership of the Defence Forces as at 31 August 1991 and which were unserviceable or non-operational; the plans he has to repair or dispose of such vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The numbers and age profile of the vehicles referred to which were held by the Defence Forces as at 31 August 1991 were as follows:

As at 31 August, 1991 170 vehicles of the total held at that date were non-operational. Of these, 50 vehicles have been repaired. Arrangements are being made to dispose of the remaining vehicles, which are obsolete, as scrap metal.
