Vol. 411 No. 8

Written Answers. - Slua Muirí Sailing Duties.

Seán Ryan

Question:

110 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the number of members of the Slua Muirí who have undertaken sailing duties outside Irish territorial waters in the years from 1985 to date; the number who have sailed to (a) Iceland and (b) the Lebanon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since 1985 55 members of the Slua Muirí have taken part in annual training aboard Naval Service ships and this would have involved periods at sea outside territorial waters.

In addition, 238 members of the Slua Muirí have undertaken sailing duties on the sail training yacht Creidne and 177 have sailed on the sail training yacht Nancy Bet during the period 1985 to date. Some of these duties would have taken place outside Irish territorial waters.

No members of the Slua Muirí have sailed to either Iceland or Lebanon aboard Naval Service vessels in the period referred to.
