Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - Longford College Staffing.

John Connor

Question:

162 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that adequate funding will be provided to maintain staffing levels at Lanesboro community college in County Longford where there are concerns about the continuation of such subjects as physical education, German and music on the curriculum; and if she will outline when the posts of principal and vice-principal, which were advertised for this school in May, will be filled.

As is the case in other vocational education committees the allocation of teaching resources to County Longford Vocational Education Committee in respect of a particular school year is made on the basis of the Vocational Education Committee as a whole in accordance with approved pupil-teacher ratios. It is the responsibility of the Vocational Education Committee to allocate those resources to individual schools within the scheme.

My Department are providing adequate funding for authorised staffing levels in County Longford Vocational Education Committees, including Lanesboro, community college.

My Department are considering an application from County Longford Vocational Education Committee for sanction to fill the posts of principal and vice-principal in Lanesboro community college on a permanent basis. A decision on this matter will be made shortly.
