Vol. 412 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hare Coursing.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

122 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has any plans to introduce legislation to ban hare coursing.

I keep the question of hare coursing under constant review in consultation with Bord na gCon to ensure that Bord na gCon and the Irish Coursing Club maintain proper supervision of coursing meetings and to ensure that the conduct of such meetings complies fully with the law. I am satisfied that both bodies make every effort to ensure that meetings are conducted in such a way as to avoid abuses.

I will, of course, give further consideration to the question of hare coursing in the context of the proposed updating of the provisions of the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958.
