Question:

57 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of (1) the total amount of insurance premiums paid to insurance companies for each of the past four years for (a) fully comprehensive policies and (b) third party fire and theft policies and (2) the total amount or estimated amount paid arising from claims under each type of policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Details of motor insurance premiums and claims are not available as between comprehensive and third-party fire and theft. The following details are in respect of total motor premiums and claims:

The Deputy should note that that information along with other relevant information in regard to the performance of insurance companies is published in the insurance annual report. Copies of the report for 1989 and previous years have been presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas.
